FOCUS
WHAT IS FOCUS?
Focus is a critical
element - the power many of us overlook, ignore, and side-track; yet capable of
actually changing the equation of our life for the better. In this article, I
shall tinker with highlighting how focus determines our future as well as helping
us to create our fortune(s).
To gain access in life,
you do not necessarily need a bunch of keys. You only need the right key
for the right door. In essence, you do not need too many keys like a janitor
experimenting and/or going through a trial-and –error process, dissipating your
energy, mental resource(s), intellectual capability, emotion(s), social
capital, economic power, and ability to grant favours. What you need is to fully
pour your attention and devote your resources in a certain direction to deploy
with specificity, determination, and ‘power’ for the door you are zero-ing on to
open; or, shall be opened and, also, the barriers shall be broken down and be consumed
with the power of your ‘focus-ing’. Please, understand that your desire should
be: to be the master at a specific thing and not just a mediocre at many
things.
Incontrovertibly, it is
extremely critical and essential for us to focus our emotional, physical, and
mental ‘energies’ on one thing we are sure of possess the potential of
transcending our lives, than dissipating our energy and mental fortitude on
numerous options. The truth about excellence and achievement is not what you
are doing; but, it is, ultimately, how well. The overarching question, then is
not about how much efforts you are putting into doing something; but, in the
end, how well (or better) are you doing it?
Research has shown that
it is better to be a superb specialist than is a sloppy generalist.
- A Specialist is someone who knows a lot about a specific area.
- A Generalist is someone who knows a little about many areas.
In effect, a specialist is an expert in a chosen
field of endeavour. Therefore, s/he is able to generate ideas faster and with penetrating
results about the specific area s/he has mastered, while a generalist has his/her fingers on many pies, wherefore s/he is a mediocre
at diverse fields of endeavour. Thus, they are generally regarded as “jack of
all trades” and, invariably, a master of none. Of course, in social life, we
need both of them. However, when it comes to the area of your career, you need
to be wholly focused to be productive at whatever you find yourself doing in
order to develop a commensurate traction and build a magnificent edifice that
is noble and admirable while, also, commanding the attention of people.
